Below is the obit as published in the NY Times for Judge Richard Henry Alvey
who died in Hagerstown, Washington Co, MD on Sept 14, 1906. He was the
father of 10 known children by his second wife Julia Jones Hayes who survived
him for several years. Judge Alvey was married first to Mary Armistead
Wharton who died abt. 1860, they had three children.

"Judge R H Alvey Dead - Maryland Jurist ends his long career at Hagerstown.

Hagerstown, MD Sept 14, 1906 Richard H Alvey, a leading lawyer and jurist
of Maryland, died here to-day. He had been Chief Judge of the Maryland State
Court of Appeals and for eleven years Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals
of the District of Columbia. Judge Alvey was born in St Mary's Co, MD on
March 6, 1826. He began the practice of law in 1849. In 1850 he removed to
Hagerstown, MD, where he formed a partnership with John Thompson Mason. He
was urged to accept the nomination for the State Senate, and at the first
election he received the same number of votes as his opponent. At the second
vote he won by a majority of 40 votes. When the civil war broke out, Judge
Alvey sympathized with the South, and at a public meeting at Hagerstown, when
Lincoln was declared elected, he gave his views on the right of a State to
secede. He was arrested and imprisioned to Fort Henry, Lafayette, and Warren.
He was elected a member of the Constitutional Convention held in 1867 and was
chosen Chief Judge of the Fourth Circuit of Maryland in the same year being
re-elected in 1882. In January, 1896, he was appointed by President
Cleveland one of the Venezuela Boundry Commissioners."¹

     Jesse Barnes Wharton was the son of John O. Wharton and Elizabeth Ann Armistead Thomson Mason. Jesse died. He married Susan Whiting.

     Elizabeth Wharton was the daughter of John O. Wharton and Elizabeth Ann Armistead Thomson Mason. Elizabeth died. She married Heber Crane.

     He married Elizabeth Wharton.

     Sarah Wharton was the daughter of John O. Wharton and Elizabeth Ann Armistead Thomson Mason. Sarah died. She married Claggett Fitzhugh.

     He married Sarah Wharton.

     William Fitzhugh Wharton was the son of John O. Wharton and Elizabeth Ann Armistead Thomson Mason. William died.

     Nannie Mason Barnes was the daughter of John Thomson Mason Barnes and Anna Jamison.

     She married John Thomson Mason Barnes at Christ Church, Baltimore, Md., on 7 January 1880. Ellen died in December 1909. Ellen's will was probated at Baltimore, Md., on 26 December 1909.

Sarah Hill Barnes
b. 11 February 1881, d. 25 February 1962

     Her common name was Sallie. Sarah was born at Baltimore, Md., on 11 February 1881.¹ She was the daughter of John Thomson Mason Barnes and Ellen Ann Hill. She married Edgar M. Pennypacker in 1905. As of 3 July 1913,her married name was Francis. She married Samuel Edgar Francis at Church of Our Savior, Philadelphia, Pa., on 3 July 1913. She married Douglas Campbell on 20 May 1922.² Sarah died on 25 February 1962 at Memorial Hospital, New York City, N.Y., at age 81.³ Her body was interred on 28 February 1962 at Cold Spring Cemetery.

Edgar M. Pennypacker
d. 10 January 1913

     Edgar was born. He worked in his father's company, the Quaker City Cooperage Co., Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of William Gause Pennypacker and Sallie A. (Hollingsworth) Pennypacker. He married Sarah Hill Barnes in 1905. He made a will at Wilmington, De., on 28 September 1911. Edgar died on 10 January 1913 at Wilmington, De.. Died of dysentery.. His body was interred in January 1913 at Wilmington, De., at Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery. Edgar's will was probated at Wilmington, De., on 27 May 1925.

Samuel Edgar Francis
b. 1883, d. 3 March 1922

     He was a student at Ithaca, N.Y.. School: Cornell University. Occupation: Sales manager National Fibre & Insulation Co., Yorklyn, DE. Samuel was born in 1883. He married Sarah Hill Barnes at Church of Our Savior, Philadelphia, Pa., on 3 July 1913. Samuel died on 3 March 1922 at Wilmington, De.. Samuel's will was probated on 19 April 1922.¹

Douglas Campbell
b. 1882, d. 9 May 1927

     Douglas was born in 1882. He was the son of John Campbell and Mary Price Campbell. Douglas served in the military in 1917. He married Sarah Hill Barnes on 20 May 1922.¹ Douglas died on 9 May 1927 at Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, N.Y..² His body was interred on 10 May 1927 at Cold Spring Cemetery.

     Melchior Beltzhoover Mason Jr. was the son of Melchior Beltzhoover Mason and Mary Daily. No issue. He married Maud Reide in 1889.

     Thomson Mason was the son of Melchior Beltzhoover Mason and Mary Daily. He married Mary Collins.

     Virginia Wallace Mason was the daughter of Melchior Beltzhoover Mason and Mary Daily. No issue. She married R.W. McMasters in 1883.

     R.W. died. He married Virginia Wallace Mason in 1883.

     Sarah Elizabeth Mason was the daughter of Melchior Beltzhoover Mason and Mary Daily. No issue. She married Walter Lewis Sanford in 1882.

     Walter died. He married Sarah Elizabeth Mason in 1882.

Louise Gilmer Mason
b. 12 February 1844, d. 26 September 1921

     Louise was born at Hagerstown, Md., on 12 February 1844. She was the daughter of John Thomson Mason Jr. and Margaret Augusta Cowan. She married Silas Wright Terry on 14 October 1873. Louise died on 26 September 1921 at Washington, D.C., at age 77.¹ She was buried on 27 September 1921 at Naval Cemetery, Annapolis, Md..

Silas Wright Terry
b. 1840, d. 9 February 1911

     U.S. Naval officer in the Civil War. Retired as a Rear Admiral in 1904. Silas was born at Wallonia, Ky., in 1840. He married Louise Gilmer Mason on 14 October 1873. Silas died on 9 February 1911 at Washington, D.C..¹
