Trail

George Mason used the Potomac River as his main artery of commerce, receiving and shipping goods, as well as for personal transportation.

To visit the shores of the Potomac and experience the wildlife and natural beauty of Mason Neck, visitors are invited to follow a trail into the woods for a leisurely 30 minute walk to the river.

Visitors can also stroll around the deer park, where George Mason once kept a herd of deer fenced in for hunting.

Visitors taking the nature trail will often observe a wide variety of local wildlife. For a listing of wild birds recently spotted at Gunston Hall see the annual Christmas Bird Count.
