Archaeology Day: Can You Dig It?

Screen for artifacts, clean and mend found objects, and learn basic skills with the archaeology staff. Take the Hunting for George Mason’s Landscape tour at 1:15 or 3:15 p.m.

Open-Hearth Cooking Class, Level I
Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 • 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Employ 18th century hearth cooking techniques and recipes to make period dishes. Offered in partnership with the Fairfax County Adult and Community Education program.

Decorative Arts Symposium: Hearing the Highlands in Virginia

Scots influenced 18th century Virginia through immigration and trade. Explore the role of their culture in shaping local style through design, architecture, and material culture.

“Safe Defense of a Free State”: Veterans’ Day Commemoration
Sunday, November 11 • 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Honor the men and women who protected America, from the struggle for independence to today. During a Mansion tour visit with re-enactors to learn of the Mason family’s service to the nation.

Plantation Christmas: Let a Christmas Past become part of your Christmas Present
Saturday, December 8 • 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Ride in a horse-drawn carriage, sip warm cider by the fire, and sample period food prepared in the hearth kitchen. Return to the 18th century as costumed characters greet you in the house and throughout the grounds.
$15, adults; $8 for ages 6-18; $2 for children 2-5 years. Reservations not required.
Plantation Christmas Yuletide Dinner
Saturday, December 8 • 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. seatings
Compliment your celebration of Plantation Christmas by indulging in a delicious holiday meal. Traditional courses are served in a candlelit setting. Reservations are required.
Events do not require a reservation unless specifically stated. The calendar is subject to change. A 30-minute mansion tour is part of all public programs. Tours are offered from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
